CREIGHTON — After defeating Creighton in Hartington on May 23, 5-0, the Hartington Pony League had little trouble against the Quad County League rivals, winning 20-0 on May 28 in a game played in Creighton.
“We were really flat the first time we played them,” Hartington coach Cale Haberer said. “I challenged our guys to bring some excitement and passion to the field in the second game. They brought it and performed much better.”
A scheduling conflict required the back-toback baseball games between the two teams.
Hartington erupted for five runs in the first frame, six in the second, five in the third and four in the fourth and what turned into the last inning due to a run-rule.
Cooper Hochstein, Hudson Whitmire, Grady Haberer, Micah Cattau and Hudson Dendinger scored in the first inning.
Hochstein, Whitmire, Cattau, Rylan Fischer and Blake Bensen scored in the second frame.
Cody Edwards, Hochstein, Whitmire, Haberer and Cattau all scored in the third, Whitmire, Haberer and Cattau all scored on Cattau’s homer, and the game was out of reach at 16-0.
Hartington will have a busy week as it was set to play at Summerland on June 4, will travel to Randolph on June 5 and will host Plainview on June 6.
The Hartington 14U Pony League began the week unbeaten at 6-0 on the season. HAR 5 6 5 4 X X X - 20 14 0 CRE 0 0 0 0 XXX-022 WP: Dawson Dresden LP: UK. 2B: Micah Cattau, Teyton Dendinger (H). 3B: Hudson Whitmire (H). HR: Micah Cattau (H).
