Area athletes take part in All-Star games

NORFOLK — Several Cedar County athletes took part in the Northeast Nebraska All-Star basketball game Friday at Northeast Community College.

Wynot’s Kinslee Heimes competed in the Dark Team, which suffered an 84-67 setback to the Light Team.

Heimes ended the contest scoring three points on 1-of-5 shooting.

The Light All-Stars were coached by retiring Ponca High School Coach Bob Hayes, who was coaching his final high school game.

Hayes’ All-Star squad raced out to an 11-0 early lead. They built a 20-9 lead at the end of the first frame and never looked back.

The Light Team was able to put together a strong offensive effort because of its strong rebounding, earning a commanding 55-38 edge over the Dark Team on the boards.

Dark 9 22 16 20 — 67 Light 20 29 19 16 — 84 A pair of Cedar County athletes helped the Dark All-Star Team earn a big 119-94 win over the Light All-Stars in the boys contest at the Cox Activities Center.

Wynot’s Chase Schroeder hit for 12 points in the game, while his All-Star teammate, Alex Kuehn of Cedar Catholic, dropped in 10 points in the contest.

The Dark Team was led by Norfolk’s Easton Sullivan, who connected for 26 points to earn MVP honors for the contest.

The Dark Team built a 22-16 lead to close out the first frame, then extended their lead to 51-36 with a 29-point secondquarter outburst. Both teams hit for 29 in the third frame, but the Dark Team pulled away in the final frame thanks to a 39-29 scoring advantage.

Others scoring for the Dark Team included: Dawson Hansen, Chase Furstenhau, Neligh-Oakdale, 15; Elkhorn Valley, 13; Bradyen Hendershot, Norfolk, 12; Spencer Hille, Plainview, 11; Drew Morrow, O’Neill, 8; Timothy LaPointe. 8, Winnebago; Derris Hansen, Boyd County, 4.
