Sandra Berger NEWCASTLE — Sandra Kay Berger, 77, Newcastle, died peacefully May 25, 2024, at Mercy One Hospital, Sioux City, Iowa, after a brief illness and in the presence of loved ones.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., June 10, at the Congregational Church in Newcastle, with a luncheon to follow.
A private family burial will take place at the Obert Cemetery.
Waterbury Funeral Service is assisting with arrangements.
Sandy was the first born child to Lois and Axel Anderson Jan. 10, 1947. She grew up on a farm near Obert. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Wynot and graduated from Obert High School in 1965. Her faith has been a constant light source through her life, holding many positions at the Congregational Church.
Sandy had three children in her first marriage, Thomas, Todd and Breana. She married John Berger June 10, 2003, in Reno. They had a wonderful life together. She loved her family, spending time with friends, attending reunions, reading books and tending to her outdoor flowers. She was a meticulous cleaner, and enjoyed watching game shows and Saturday Night Live. She enjoyed a plethora of jobs throughout her life, her most recent job as a custodian for The Bank of Dixon County, Newcastle, and never moved far to stay close to her roots.
Sandy is survived by her loving husband, John Berger, Newcastle; children, Tommy (Jill) Brennan, Lincoln; Todd (Tina) Brennan, Newcastle; Breana Marlett, West Point; Kristine (Jim) Pettit, Kansas City, Kan.; and Adam John Berger (Tierney), Kansas City, Kan.; grandchildren, Jessica Brennan, Thomas Brennan, Alison (Dalton) Tremayne, Austin Brennan, Ava Brennan, Alexus Hans, James Tucker Marlett, Penelope Leonard, Andrew Pettit, Mikayla Fussel, Tarik Berger and Breccen Berger; siblings, Andrew (Roz) Anderson, Salina, Kan., and Randall (Gloria) Anderson, Wynot ;and sistersin- law, Maryann Schieve, Elaine Harms, Ellen Schmidt and Joyce Anderson.
She is preceded in death by her parents and in-laws. Memorials will be designated to the Congregational Church.
