Rosener leads Wildcats at State track meet

OMAHA – Seven Hartington-Newcastle track athletes made the trip to Omaha May 17 and 18 to compete in the 2024 Nebraska Class D Track and Field Championships.

OMAHA — Seven Hartington-Newcastle track athletes made the trip to Omaha May 17 and 18 to compete in the 2024 Nebraska Class D Track and Field Championships.

Mani Lange, Hazel Hochstein and Jade Ford represented the Lady Wildcats while Cole Rosener, Cole Heimes, Will Feilmeier and Kale Korth represented the Wildcats.

Rosener had the most success at Burke Stadium, bringing home some hardware from a seventh-place showing in the long jump while competing in three events over the two days of the meet.

Rosener sailed 20-feet-9.75-inches for his medal, ran the 200 in 23.29 seconds and circled the track once in the 400 in 52.77 seconds, leaving him 13th in both the running events. His time in the 400 was just .34 seconds from another medal.

“He ran just shy of his personal records in the races and got the medal in the long jump,” HNS coach Dylan Behnke said. “Cole had a fantastic season and I look forward to him attempting to outdo himself again next year.”

Will Feilmeier qualified in the 100 meters and was .03 seconds off of his personal best in that race when he ran an 11.35 in Omaha, which put him 17th in the field of runners.

“Will was one of only two freshmen to compete in the race,” Behnke said. “That’s pretty impressive.”

Cole Heimes competed in the pole vault and had a personal-best vault of 12-00 even to earn 14th place.

“He continued to improve in the event all season,” Behnke said. “I’m sure he’s already eyeing his older brother’s school record for next year.”

Heimes also ran the 300 hurdles and used a time of 45.77 to finish 24th.

Kale Korth also competed in the pole vault and ran the 110-meter high hurdles. He finished right below Heimes in the pole vault with a best of 11-06 and was 24th in the hurdles with a time of 18.86.

“I don’t think Kale was satisfied with his performances at the State meet,” his coach said. “But I was super proud of his leadership and willingness to step up in the events we needed him to all year long. He worked hard in all of his years of track so I’m thankful he got the opportunity to compete at the State track meet.”

The Lady Wildcats’ Mani Lange made her fourth trip to Omaha in her final year at Hartington-Newcastle.

She qualified in the pole vault and cleared the bar at 8-06 to place 13th in the event. Hazel Hochstein also vaulted and cleared 8-00 along with four other vaulters.

“It was difficult because the starting height was 8 feet, where in most meets we start at 6 and it gives the girls time to get warmed up,” HNS coach Mandy Hochstein said. “Mani and Hazel worked very hard and we are very proud of their efforts.

“Hazel will get the opportunity to vault again next season. Mani finished on a high note after four years of work and we will miss her on the team.”

Jade Ford competed in the triple jump and hit the sand after a hop, step and jump at 32-07.25, which put her in 17th place.

“Jade just missed the finals and an opportunity to medal,” Hochstein said. “She is already talking about next year and how she is going to jump farther. She’s very motivated about triple jump and I look forward to watching her future success.”

Adysen McCarter of Overton won the event with a best of 37-05.

“Overall, I was pleased with our three qualifiers,” Hochstein said. “Though we would have liked to see some hardware, their efforts were genuine.” 2024 Nebraska Class D Track and Field Championships Boys Team Results: McCool Junction 56; Axtell 56; Overton 44; Nebraska Christian 39; Plainview 34; Dundy County- Stratton 31; High Plains 25; Cambridge
