HARTINGTON—A temporary detour around a section of Highway 15 will be completed this week.

The temporary detour will begin routing traffic off of Highway 15 at Goetz Street. Highway traffic will then travel east for two blocks to Summit Street.

Traffic can then travel Summit south all the way to Highway 84 or Franklin Avenue to return to the highway.

HARTINGTON—A man sentenced last fall to three years probation for his role in a jail escape, has landed himself behind bars again. Brian L. Schaecher, 20, was sentenced in Cedar County District Court to 4-5 years in prison for violating parole, and for his role in attempted sexual assault of a 14-year old girl.

HARTINGTON—Cedar County Sheriff Loren Trautman said his department is managing to get by under a county-mandated employee cut-back. However, Trautman said, activity in the county was slower than usual in the past few weeks.

He expects more calls now that the weather is getting warmer and kids are beginning to get out of school.
