HNS tracksters compete at Norfolk Catholic

NORFOLK - The Hartington-Newcastle track teams competed in the final tune up for this week’s district meet in Hartington.

The Wildcats ended up fifth in the meet with 40 points while the Lady Wildcats placed eighth with 13 points.

Pierce swept both titles in the meet with Norfolk Catholic second in both the girls’ and boys divisions.

O’Neill was third in the boys with Crofton taking third in the girls.

“We performed well,” Wildcat coach Dylan Behnk said. “I am super excited to watch our kids compete in the district meet.”

Cole Heimes had a good day at the meet for the Wildcats placing third in the triple jump and sixth in the 300 hurdles.

Cole Rosener was third in the 200 and led a three, six finish in the event with Will Feilmeier placing sixth and Landon McIntosh finishing one spot out of the medals in seventh.

McIntosh also placed fifth in the 400 after circling the track in 57 seconds.

Brayden Lammers jumped his way to a third in the high jump and a fourth in the triple jump and Feilmeier was fourth in the 100-meters.

Carmen Buschkamp brought home the only gold medal for either team as she took the title in the 3,200-meter run with a personalbest time of 13:24.0.

“She led the race the entire eight laps,” Lady Wildcat coach, Mandy Hochstein said. “She has become one of the strongest runners on our team and leads the team in points scored on the season.”

Jade Ford placed sixth in the long jump.

The Wildcats and Lady Wildcats were set to be back in action to host the D-3 District Track and Field Meet Wednesday, May 8 at the Hartington Community Athletic Complex.

Bancroft-Rosalie, Bloomfield, Lyons-Decatur Northeast, Osmond, Pender, Randolph, Walthill, Wausa, Winside and Wynot were scheduled to compete in the D-3 District.
