Cedar golfers finish second at Pierce Invitational

PIERCE – The Cedar Catholic golf team traveled to Battle Creek for the Pierce Invitational April 27 as the Pierce golf course is not ready for full play.

PIERCE — The Cedar Catholic golf team traveled to Battle Creek for the Pierce Invitational April 27 as the Pierce golf course is not ready for full play.

Despite the extra distance, the Trojans placed second in the meet and were just two shots off of bringing home the big trophy.

“It was a good lesson for the kids,” Cedar Catholic coach Rick Kuehn said. “They need to remember every stroke counts.”

Memphis Ulrich shot the low round for Cedar Catholic with an 89 which was good enough for seventh individually.

“The weather was good for a change,” Kuehn said. “We didn’t shoot well on the front nine but we settled in and played and felt a lot more comfortable with the course.”

Cedar Catholic was heading west to O’Neill for the Mid State Conference Meet on April 30 and will return to action May 2 back at Battle Creek for an invitational.

The C-4 District Golf Meet is set for May 14 at the Hartington Golf Course.

Carson Wieseler from Crofton/Wynot was the medalist after carding an 83, one shot better than Bloomfield’s Keaton Gilsdorf.

Mav Heines grabbed some hardware for the Trojan, shooting an 89 for ninth place. Sam and Harrison Kuehn carded a 93 and a 94 respectively to close out the scoring for Cedar Catholic.

Teammate Langston Christensen shot a 98.

In the Cedar Catholic Invitational, the Trojans wound up third behind Ponca at 337 and O’Neill at 350. The Trojans carded a 359.

Grant Sprakel of Ponca shot the low round of the day with a 78. Calvin Wilmes of Creighton was second with an 81.

Heine paced Cedar Catholic with an 88 which put him 10th individually.

Ulrich was next at 89, Sam Kuehn and Harrison Kuehn both shot a 91 and Christensen came in with a 97.

Cedar Catholic fielded a JV team for the tournament and it ended up 13th.

Landyn Keiser led the junior squad with a 98, Bodie Hochstein was next at 103, Ben Klsinschmit shot 112, Jackson Klug shot a 120 and Brett Stevens rounded out the scoring with a 126.
