Wildcats finish second in own Invite

HARTINGTON - Hartington-Newcastle completed a busy and successful week on the track this past week.

HARTINGTON - Hartington-Newcastle completed a busy and successful week on the track this past week.

The Hartington-Newcastle boys won the Wildcat Invitational on April 15 and ended up seventh in the Tom Martin Memorial/Wausa Invitational on April 18.

The Lady Wildcats were ninth in the Tom Martin meet and fifth in the Wildcat Invitational.

Bloomfield swept the team titles in the Wildcat Invite with the Bees putting up 87 points and the Lady Bees posting 106, the Wildcats were six points behind the Bees in the boys’ section of the meet while the Lady Wildcats score 56.

Pierce was the girls champion in the Tom Martin with 93 points, Norfolk Catholic was second with 92. Hartington-Newcastle tallied 18 points.

Norfolk Catholic won the boys’ title with 117 points with the Bluejays second with 99. The Wildcats posted 32 points.

In the Wildcat Invite, Cole Rosener won the long jump, was third in the 800 and fourth in the 100.

Cole Heimes was second in the triple jump, third in the 300 hurdles and sixth in the long jump.

Kale Korth was second in the 110-meter high hurdles. The 400-meter relay team of Landon McIntosh, Rosener, Keatyn Arens and Will Felmeier was third; the 1,600 squad of McIntosh, Brayden Lammers, Arens and Ty Opfer placed fourth; and the 3,200 quartet of Isaac Santiago, Gabriel Reyes, Dane Gotch and Aidan Anderson placed fifth.

Lammers was fifth in the high jump and Santiago was sixth in both the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs.

Jason Heimes was sixth in the open 400. For the Lady Wildcats, Carmen Buschkamp ruled the distance races, winning the 3,200 and placing fourth in the 1,600.

Jade Ford was second and third in the long and triple jumps respectively. In the long jump she matched the best in the field at 15-feet-8-inches, but lost the gold when the other jumper had a better second jump.

Abi Rice was fourth in both the 100 and 200-meter sprints and Zoey Gratsfeld was sixth in the triple jump.

The Hartington-Newcastle 3,200-meter relay team of Buschkamp, Emily Climer, Ell Haug and Steffen placed second and the 400-meter team of Madelyn Rosener, Rice, Hazel Hochstein and Mani Lange placed third after circling the track in 55.65 seconds.

Rosener paced the Wildcats in the Tom Martin meet with a second in the 400, a fourth in the 200 and a fifth in the long jump.

Ford was second in the triple jump and Buschkamp was fourth in the 3,200 to lead the Lady Wildcats.

The Norfolk Track Classic is set for April 24 then the teams will head to Ponca, April 27 for the Lewis & Clark Conference Meet.
