Hartington City Council agrees to zoning changes

HARTINGTON – Land plats, replats and zoning were the big issues at Monday’s Hartington City Council meeting.

HARTINGTON — Land plats, replats and zoning were the big issues at Monday’s Hartington City Council meeting.

The Council agreed to grant a replat of land owned by Rick Pearson at Lot 4, Block 27, First Addition.

After a public hearing the Council also agreed to zoning changes for that property, changing its usage from residential to Highway Commercial District.

The zoning change was needed because Hartelco wants to have a warehouse constructed on that property.

The Council also held a public hearing for the final plat of the Hartington Economic Development’s new business park and rezoning of that land, which is located between Bomgaars and Pomps on the north side of Highway 84.

The zoning modification changes that property from Agricultural to a Heavy Industrial District.

The Council also held a public hearing Monday to grant a Class D Liquor license to Hurtington Petroleum, LLC, which is purchasing the Stop N Go convenience store on North Highway 57.

Building permits for Tim Leise for a detached garage and for Verizon Wireless for modifications to one of its antennas were also approved.

A Conditional Use permit was also granted to Holy Trinity School, which plans to open a daycare facility in the basement of the Congregational Church.

The basement area has been used this school year by Hartington-Newcastle Elementary School for its preschool, which had to be temporarily relocated because of construction at the school.

Holy Trinity plans to start the daycare facility to help alleviate a childcare shortage in the area.

Also Monday, the Council granted a permit to once again allow Fly By Night Fireworks to sell fireworks in Hartington in late June and early July.
