LINCOLN — Five new cabins at Mahoney and Platte River State Parks are ready for booking, and a fishing pier is planned at the popular trout lake at Two Rivers State Recreation Area.
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission announced both improvements recently.
The new cabins, which have four bedrooms and a basement family room, were made possible by a donation from the Lincoln-based Acklie Foundation.
Three are at Mahoney State Park, with two at Platte River.
Reservations for the cabins can be made beginning March 25 via the website OutdoorNebraska.gov or by calling Mahoney State Park (402944-2523) and Platte River State Park (402-234-2217).
At Two Rivers State Recreation Area west of Omaha, a fishing pier is being built at the popular trout lake to improve access to deeper water.
Fishing at the lake opens Saturday, and the construction area will be fenced off.
The fishing pier is being funded by family and friends of Ted M. Sonderegger of Lincoln, a longtime angler at the lake who passed away in 2022.
