HARTINGTON — While snow days have given area students a brief break from school this winter, those breaks will come at a cost.
Cedar Catholic Principal Chris Uttecht said there have been nine snow days so far this year.
After consulting with Hartington- Newcastle Supt. A.J. Johnson, Uttecht said both schools have decided to make some changes to the school calender.
That means Easter break, which was originally scheduled as a five-day holiday, will now only include Good Friday. Students will now be in session on the Thursday before Easter and on Easter Monday.
The school year is also being extended. Instead of getting out of school May 17, students will now get out of school at noon on May 18.
Johnson said when the school calendar is put together each year, an additional six-seven days are banked in just in case they are needed for snow days. That just wasn’t enough with this year’s weather, though, he said.
