HARTINGTON — Authorities and volunteers Tuesday continued the search for the body of David L. Thoene, believed to have drowned Feb. 15 in a boating accident at 3 p.m.
Thoene, 40, father of seven children, had been fishing with his brother, Anthony, 37, when the accident occurred. Cedar County Sheriff Gordon Graham said the alumni fishing boat the two were riding in apparently hit an ice flow at a location north of St. Helena. The two were thrown from the boat, according to Graham’s report. Anthony apparently was able to get back to the boat, which was circling under the power of a motor.
Neither man was wearing a life preserver, according to the report, although the devices were stowed in the boat.
