Bears split a pair of games as regular season winds down

HARTINGTON — Laurel-Concord-Coleridge split in two most recent games with a 52-50 loss in overtime to Hartington-Newcastle in Hartington on Feb. 12 after taking care of Wisner-Pilger, 63-45 in a game played in Wisner on Feb. 8.

It took a wild comeback in the fourth quarter for the Bears to survive to overtime with the Wildcats.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge trailed Hartington-Newcastle 34-28 heading into the final eight minutes, but the Bears got hot and closed the gap to even at the end of regulation, 45-45.

The Wildcats slipped past the Bears in the extra session to come away with the 52-50 final score.

Tyler Olson and Gibson Roberts paced the offensive attack for LCC with 15 and 14 points respectively.

Kolby Hansen added nine, Kayton Hall five and Bradyn Urwiler tossed in four.

Hansen grabbed 10 rebounds, Hall pulled down eight and Hansen had four blocks.

Against the Gators, the Bears jumped on Wisner-Pilger from the opening tip, leading at the end of the first frame, 19-10.

The lead grew to 14 at the break and got over 20 points in the final quarter.

The advantage settled at 18 when the final buzzer sounded.

Carter Kvols paced four Bears in double figures on the night with 16 points.

Roberts added 15, Olson put in 11 and Hansen finished with 10.

Kvols handed out three assists and Olson had five steals. Roberts swiped the ball four times.

The Bears will end their regular season with a date with Wynot in Laurel on Feb. 16.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge is scheduled to compete in the Class C2-8 Sub-District Tournament Feb. 20 at the Monsignor Werner Activities Center at Cedar Catholic in Hartington.

The Bears are the No. 2 seed in the tournament and will take on the No. 3 seed, Crofton in the second game of the evening at 7:30.

Cedar Catholic will take on Osmond/ Randolph in the first game of the tournament with the winners set to play at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 22 in Hartington.
