Knudsen seeks another term as Laurel’s Mayor

HARTINGTON – Laurel’s mayor has filed for re-relection.

HARTINGTON – Laurel’s mayor has filed for re-relection.

Keith Knudsen filed paperwork with the Cedar County Clerk’s Office last week, seeking another term in his office.

Knudsen knows his way around local government. He was a long-time member of the Laurel City Council before running unopposed four years ago for Mayor.

Incumbents have only a few short days left to decide if they want to run for re-election. The filing deadline is Thursday, Feb. 15 at 5 p.m.

In the local school board race, Carol Erwin filed for re-election in the hopes of maintaining her seat on the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge School Board.

Dustin Thompson and Samuel Recob also have expiring board terms but had not yet filed for re-election as of Monday morning.

On the Laurel city council, City Councilmen Chad Johnson and Justin Eriksen, have expiring terms. Neither had filed for re-election as of early Monday.

While the incumbent deadline is this week, anyone new to office has until Friday, March 1, to file for election.

Many local races like school board and city council will appear on the May 14 primary election ballot.

All village board races such as those in Belden, Concord, Dixon and Coleridge will appear on the general election ballot only and so those filing deadlines are later this summer.

Those filing for county and local elections will do so with their respective county clerk’s offices. Candidates for the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, the Nebraska Public Service Commission, the Nebraska Legislature, natural resources districts and other governmental entities will file with the Nebraska Secretary of State’s Office.

Primary election ballots for Cedar County voters will be mailed out in late April and need to be returned to the county clerk’s office by 8 p.m. May 14.

Some election races require that a filing fee be paid and others require that a filing fee be paid along with a financial disclosure statement be completed.
