Wynot girls earn big win over Wayne

WAYNE – The Wynot girls basketball team stepped up a couple of classes to take on the Wayne Lady Blue Devils Thursday at Wayne.

WAYNE — The Wynot girls basketball team stepped up a couple of classes to take on the Wayne Lady Blue Devils Thursday at Wayne.

The road team used solid defense to build a 22-10 halftime lead and made it stand up the rest of the way to earn the 51-39 win.

Wynot was led by Kenna Oligmueller with 16 points and Allison Wieseler, who hit double figures with a pair of three-pointers on her way to 10 points. Myrah Sudbeck helped out with eight points as well.

Wayne was paced by Haley Kramer with 13 points. Addison Sharpe helped with six points for the home team.

The visiting Lady Blue Devils’ defense was on full display early. They held Wayne to seven first-quarter points.

The home team was led by Haley Kramer with a three-pointer and single baskets from Claire Lutter and Gabby Judd. Wynot got four points each from Kenna Oligmueller and Kayla Pinkelman and a three-pointer from Allison Wieseler to take the early 11-7 lead.

Wayne could only manage a single three-pointer in the second quarter as Wynot’s full-court pressure gave them all kinds of trouble.

Wynot got a three-pointer from Kinslee Heimes. Myrah Sudbeck, Allison Wieseler, Kenna Oligmueller and Kayla Pinkelman all contributed a basket to the visiting Lady Blue Devils’ offense as they had increased their halftime lead to 22-10.

Wayne would rally in the third quarter, led by seven points from Haley Kramer, a trey by Frantzdie Barner and a basket each by Claire Lutter, Gabby Judd and Reagen McGuire as it cut into Wynot’s lead.

Wynot held onto the lead with a second trey by Allison Wieseler and four points from Myrah Sudbeck, along with some free throws to take a 33- 26 lead into the final quarter.

Wayne kept showing some offensive production with four points from Edie Powicki and three-pointers from Haley Krammer and Addison Sharpe.

Wynot widened its lead late thanks to Kenna Oligmueller’s nine points, a basket each from Myrah Sudbeck and Allison Wieseler, and connecting on 7-of-9 from the freethrow line to earn the win.
