HARTINGTON — A decision is to be announced soon in a case involving a Cedar County couple allegedly in violation of state education laws.

The State of Nebraska and Cedar County versus Brent and Marjorie Shockey was heard Jan. 12 in District Court before Judge Francis Kneifl.

The civil suit charges the Shockeys are operating a school in their home without complying with state requirements on certification of teachers, certification of curriculum, and with failure to make attendance reports and failure to abide by other department of education laws. Cedar County Attorney Mark Behm has requested a summary judgment against the couple, who reside near Laurel. The judgement, if granted, would bar the Shockeys from continuing to operate such a school.
