HARTINGTON — The Cedar Catholic Trojans dropped a 50-36 contest last week to undefeated Ponca.
The Trojans were set to embark on play in the Mid-State Conference Tournament on Jan. 30 in Albion where they were to take on Battle Creek as the No. 3 seed.
The tournament continues on Feb. 2 with semifinals at Guardian Angels Central Catholic.
The consolation bracket will be at Cedar Catholic, beginning on Feb. 2.The finals are set for Feb. 3 at GACC.
Ponca stymied the Cedar Catholic offense in the first frame, holding the Trojans to just three first-quarter points. The Trojans came back to outscore Ponca 10-7 in the second frame to cut the halftime deficit to five points — 18-13..
Cedar again outscored the Indians in the third frame, 11-7, to cut Ponca’s advantage to just one point — 25-24 — heading into the final frame. The Indians dominated the action in the final frame, earning a 25-12 scoring advantage for the 14-point win.
