LINCOLN — Historic structures in Verdigre, Comstock and Beatrice, Nebraska, have been selected for grants to help fund rehabilitation work.
History Nebraska announced Monday the three structures would share $74,046 in federal Historic Preservation Fund Bricks and Mortar Grants to assist roof projects on the buildings.
The three projects were chosen from seven applicants.
In Verdigre, the tin roof on the front two-thirds of the ZCBJ Opera House will be replaced.
In Comstock, the shake shingle roof of the Dowse Sod House will be removed and replaced.
The grant in Beatrice will support the removal and replacement of the flat rubber roof of the Bole Floral Building. New flashing and gutters will also be installed.
Grant funding comes from the federal Historic Preservation Fund, which uses revenue from federal oil leases assist preservation projects.
