Wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour, wind chills of down to 50 below zero and snowfall of at least 15 inches over the past week and a half have made for quite a miserable start to 2024 for area residents. State and local road crews and area residents were able to get out Sunday afternoon to start scooping and blowing snow off the roads from the latest blizzard. From Jan. 12-15, the highest temperature attained in Hartington was only five degrees above zero, while the temperature stayed below zero most of the time. The coldest temperature recorded during the arctic cold snap was on Jan. 13 when it hit minus-20.
