HARTINGTON — The Northeast Nebraska Prescribed Burn Association was given the Lead Ignitor Award at the 2023 Prescribed Fire Conference Dec. 5 in Kearney. The NNPBA was recognized for being a significant supporter of prescribed burning within their community for conserving native grasslands, wildlife, and ranching heritages.

Since its development in 2011, the NNPBA has participated in 208 prescribed burns for 13,440 acres and over 9,500 hours working on burns. The NNPA operates off the “neighbors-helping- neighbors” concept to implement prescribed fire as a tool on private lands in the counties of Knox, Cedar, Dixon, and Wayne.

For more information on the NNPBA or prescribed burning, contact Rob van Lieshout, Nebraska Prescribed Fire Specialist, at [email protected].
