HUMPHREY — The Wynot Blue Devils and the Crofton Warriors battled to determine the championship of the Humphrey St. Francis Holiday Tournament on Saturday night.
The Warriors were able to build several leads in this one only to see the Blue Devils rally on each occasion to get within striking distance.
The game went down to the final minute when the Warriors iced the game with some key free throws to earn the championship plaque with the 63-58 win.
One of the keys to the game was free throw shooting as the Warriors hit a blistering 23 for 28 from the charity stripe.
Wynot had less chances garnering only six for 12. Another contributing factor was Crofton rebounding advantage of 27-16 especially second chance points on the offensive glass.
Crofton had a balanced attack putting 5 players in double figures lead by Jace Foxhoven with 15 points. Seth Pinkelman, Trevor Allen and Braxton Foxhoven all finished with 12 point apiece and Sam Pinkelman added 10 points to the cause.
Wynot’s Dylan Heine hit four three-pointers on his way to a game-high 18 points. Chase Schroeder was right behind with 17 points. Zack Foxhoven and Joseph Sudbeck just missed double figures with nine points each for the Blue Devils offense.
Both teams came out firing. Wynot got a pair of three pointers from Zack Foxhoven and 3 conventional baskets from Dylan Heine along with 4 points by Chase Schroeder in the opening quarter.
Crofton answered with a pair of threes by Trevor Allen, six points by Braxton Foxhoven, five points from Seth Pinkelman along with a solo trey by Jace Foxhoven as the Warriors earned an early 24-20 lead.
The Blue Devils went cold in the second quarter getting a trey by Joe Sudbeck and put back by Chase Schroeder. Crofton went on a 12-7 run behind a pair of treys and a regular basket from Jace Foxhoven to push out to a 36-27 halftime lead.
Wynot defense would clamp down on the Warriors offense in the third quarter holding them to a single field goal by Sam Pinkelman and some free throw.
Dylan Heine led the rally with a trio of three pointers along with baskets by Zack Foxhoven, Joseph Sudbeck and Chase Schroeder as Wynot had cut the Warriors lead to 46-44 with one period left.
In the final quarter Wynot got another three pointer from Dylan Heine and short jumper from Joseph Sudbeck along with nine big points from Chase Schroeder.
Braxton Foxhoven had a pair of offense putbacks and Seth Pinkelman hit for five points for the Warriors. With 25 second left a Chase Schroeder trey from the top of the key would make it a one possession game. An intentional foul call hurt the Blue Devils chances but gave the Warriors credit as they would hit 9 of 11 free throws down the stretch. The Blue Devils did not get to line in final quarter as Crofton earned the 63-58 win.

HUMPHREY — The Wynot Blue Devils battled the West Point Beemer Cadets in their first round match up at the Humphrey St Francis Holiday Tournament on Friday afternoon.
The Blue Devils were able to battle to a sixpoint halftime lead and expand on their lead in the second half to earn a 59-43 win and advance to play Crofton for the title on Saturday.
Zack Foxhoven led the Blue Devil offense hitting four three pointers on his way to a 21 point performance to lead all scorers. Dylan Heine and Chase Schroeder contributed with 11 and 10 points respectively.
West Point Beemer got 14 points each from Colten Haber and Blaize Brakmann.
Blaize Brakmann connected for seven first quarter points and Colten Haber scored four points to lead the Cadets first-quarter attack.
Zack Foxhoven had the hot hand early for the Blue Devils hitting a pair of long range three pointers on his way to 11 first quarter points. Kasen Koch and Dylan Heine each hit from the field as well as Wynot built an early 20-12 lead.
In the second quarter Foxhoven hit a third trey and Chase Schroeder worked the low post for a pair of buckets.
The Cadet would rally with 8 points from Blaize Brakmann and a three pointer by Colten Haber to cut into the Blue Devils lead but still trailed 32-26 at halftime.
Colten Haber hit for five points for the Cadets in the third quarter. Hunter Swanson and Myles Neilsen each had a basket as well.
Foxhoven rain in another three and a pair of floaters in the lane for Wynot. Dylan Heine and Carson Wieseler each hit a basket plus one as the Blue Devils started to widen the gap leading 4736 at the end of the third quarter.
In the final period the Cadets got a basket each from Hunter Swanson, Bryden Daggett and Myles Neilsen but the Blue Devils kept the pressure on thanks to a trio of field goals by Dylan Heine and a pair of baskets from Chase Schroeder as they would advance with the 59-43 win.
