March, 2023: Cedar, Wynot girls both advance to State

HARTINGTON – Cedar Catholic and Wynot girls basketball players celebrated Friday night as both teams won their District championship games to advance to this week’s State tournament in Lincoln.

A strong defensive effort and a dominating rebounding performace led the Cedar Catholic Lady Trojans to a 60-36 D1-3 District championship game win Friday over Niobrara/Verdigre.

Makenna Noecker led Cedar with 22 points, while Katy Jones chipped in with 19 points.

Laney Kathol chipped in with eight points, while the rest of the scoring came from: Melayna McGregor, 4; Lauren Bernecker, 3; Addison Walter, 2; Katelyn Arens, 2; Samantha Pick, 1.

Wynot topped Overton 53-36 in Seward to advance to the State Tournament.

Wynot got contributions on offense from nine players, led by Kinslee Heimes with 12 points. Amber Lawson had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Myrah Sudbeck hit for eight points and Kayla Pinkelman and Lauren Haberman each helped the offense with seven points apiece.
