HARTINGTON - The Cedar Catholic boys basketball team outlasted Crofton here at the Monsignor Werner Activities Center Dec. 12, 53-47 to improve to 3-1 on the season heading into this week’s Knight Classic in Fremont Dec. 19 and 21.
Cedar Catholic trailed after the first quarter 11-8 but managed a one-point lead heading into the halftime locker room, 22-21.
The Trojans added six points to their advantage in the third stanza then held on for the six-point win.
Nolan Becker paced the Cedar Catholic offense with 21 points including a 9-for-10 performance from the field.
The Trojans made good on just over 55% of their shots from the field and were 3-of-7 from beyond the 3-point line.
Jaymison Cattau tossed in 12 points and Alex Kuehn added eight. Ty Thoene tacked on five and Jacob Steffen scored four points.
Becker and company dominated in the paint where they outscored the Warriors 28-20.
Kuehn grabbed six rebounds, Becker and Thoene each hauled in four missed shots.
Thoene dished out four assists, Cattau and Braeden Reifenrath each handed out three. Cattau erased four shots in the contest.
The Trojans were set to take on Class B South Sioux City in the first round of the Knight Classic hosted by Archbishop Bergan in Fremont Dec. 19.
They will move on to the Wayne Holiday Tournament Dec. 28 - Dec. 30. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, Pierce, Pender, Plattsmouth, South Sioux City, Wayne and Winnebago will join the Trojans in Wayne.
