Virginia Bergman
HARTINGTON — Virginia Ann Bergman, 92, Hartington, died Nov. 22, 2023, at the Arbor Care Center, Hartington.
Mass of Christian Burial was Nov. 27 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating. Burial was at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Hartington.
Visitation and a vigil service were Sunday, at church. Visitation continued Monday, one hour prior to services.
Pallbearers were her grandchildren, Brandon Moes, Andrew Moes, Ryan Moes, Trent Moes, Todd Kathol, Brad Kathol, Mark Kathol, Tomas Kathol, Kurtis Kathol and Jennifer Kathol.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.
Virginia was born Oct. 22, 1931, in Menominee, to John T. and Leona (Fernholz) Kleinschmit. She grew up in rural Menominee and attended school there. Virginia worked at a Bakery in Yankton, S.D., babysat for numerous families, and worked in the Russell Stover Chocolate factory in Lincoln. She married Donald Anthony Bergman June 28, 1955, in Menominee. She and Don lived in Lincoln for 15 years prior to moving to Hartington in 1969. They made their home on the farm east of Hartington.
Virginia was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and held an hour of adoration for many years since the 1990s. She was a member of Christian Mothers and the Catholic Daughters of America. Virginia loved to go fishing with Don, wintering in Texas, playing cards, gardening and canning, quilting, golfing years ago, her cats, and mowing her yard. She still mowed her yard up until entering the nursing home on July 27, 2023. Virginia always made sure her guests were fed when they visited.
Virginia is survived by her three children, Steven J. and special friend, Sue Neuhalfen, Hartington; Jane (Ivan) Jelsma, Springfield, S.D.; Joyce (Don) Kathol, Bow Valley; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Daniel (Rose-Ann) Kleinschmit, Wausa, and Larry (Pat) Kleinschmit, Yankton, S.D.; two sisters, Dolorita Uhing, Wynot, and Carol (Frederick) Pinkelman, Wynot.
