Wynot is setting the stage for District competition

RANDOLPH – Heather Heimes hopes last week’s third-place showing at conference one-act play production sets the stage for more accolades to come.

“It was the best our students had performed to date,” the oneact director said of her students’ Lewis and Clark Conference performance on Nov. 14 at Randolph. “The judges commented a lot on the quality of the acting, the design of the set and the beautiful costumes.”

Myrah Sudbeck received the Overall Outstanding Actress for the Clark conference division. She wasn’t surprised at all by their high ranking at conference competition.

“We did really well at our own festival and we have been practicing very hard,” she said.

Isabelle Heimes, Jed Nelson, Kinslee Heimes and Eliza Lange also received outstanding performance awards.

This year’s play is a Heather Heimes original. “The Wishing Well” tells the story of an evil wishing well that makes wishes go wrong. She said some tweaks will need to be made to the plot line before forging ahead into district competition.

Wynot has a home-stage advantage for the competition set for Monday, Nov. 27. A public performance is set for 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 26. Thirty-five students act and five work behind the scenes for this year’s play production.

“I have really enjoyed this oneact season, getting to spend time with my friends before shows, and getting to perform in front of my family,” Sudbeck said.
