1938: Street paving is taking place near courthouse

HARTINGTON — Corn picking has resumed in Cedar County following the delay caused by the snow storm, which covered a large part of the corn in the county.

About two-thirds of the corn in the north part of the county is picked, according to Frank Suing, elevator man at Fordyce.

Nov. 15, 1928

HARTINGTON — George C. Wright, former Belden and Laurel banker, who has been cashier at the Creighton National Bank for the past three years, has retired to take up work with W.H. VanDoozer, in connection with the organization and development of cooperative creameries.

Mr. Wright was engaged in newspaper work in Sioux City before becoming associated with the Belden National Bank.

Later, he was elected cashier of the First National Bank of Laurel, where he was also city clerk for a number of years and is well and favorably known over the southern part of the county.

HARTINGTON — Clarence Mengshol wrote an article on his experiments with enamel for the “Ceramic Age,” a trade magazine.

Nov. 10, 1938

HARTINGTON — The pouring of paving near the Highway 15 and Washington Avenue intersection near the courthouse is now underway.
