KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Roger Dean Leonard Gubbels, 76, Kansas City, Mo., died peacefully surrounded by his children Nov. 3, 2023. Roger was born to Cyril and Mary (Sauser) Gubbels on Valentine’s Day, 1947, in Randolph.
Roger was a kind-hearted man, who believed deeply in helping others, whether that be through his service in the Army, building and repairing projects for his family and friends, helping highschoolers learn to build competitive robots, donating more than 28 gallons of blood in his lifetime, volunteering at the VA hospital, or the countless other acts of kindness he quietly provided. Roger was quick with a joke and enjoyed spreading his jovial nature and apple pies, with all those he met. He was a loving and devoted father, friend, and helper, whose love for life will be missed.
Roger is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Gubbels; son, Jerad Gubbels, and wife, Kelly Gubbels, and their children, Charlie and Samuel; his caring ex-wife, Connie Gubbels; brothers, Luvern, Gene and Pat Gubbels; sister, Rosalie Nordhues; and many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Roger’s family hosted a rosary and visitation, followed by funeral Mass, Nov. 11 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, in the Brookside area of Kansas City.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Mid-America Chapter of the ALS Association in Roger’s name.
