HARTINGTON – The Iliad and The Odyssey, this is not.

Cedar Catholic High School is presenting a Greek comedy called “The Idiot and the Oddity,” by Doug Rand. The 2023 play production is being directed by one-act coach Audrey Freeman and assistant coach Adam Pinkelman.

“The play is about a goddess in training attempting to reach her deity status after being challenged by her father, Zeus, to illuminate one mortal, Protagonis, to flaws in human society,” Freeman said.

“She takes him on an adventure through Greece as he learns that humans are messy beings and the gods of Olympus aren’t much better,” she said.

Cedar Catholic is set to: - Compete in the Mid-State Conference one-act contest on Nov. 14 at the Johnny Carson Theatre in Norfolk.

- Host Snacks and a Show at 7 p.m. Nov. 21 and a school performance at 11:15 a.m. Nov. 22, both at the Holy Trinity Elementary gym.

- Compete in the District C1-3 Play Production contest on Nov. 28 in Ponca.

Freeman noted her one-act students started practicing in September for this year’s play production.

“After doing a serious play last year, it is always a nice change to a comedy,” she said. “We have a lot of kids on stage, lots of music and movement, and I love a Greek play.

“The big cast has been both a challenge, but also fun to use each one’s personality and talents in the best way,” she said. “We have a lot of newcomers this year and I’m so proud of the work they have done.”
