HARTINGTON — Area residents will have several chances to remember and honor veterans with special Veterans Day activities here this week.
This year's Veterans Day program is going to be celebrated on Friday, Nov. 10, in the Hartington community.
The community celebration will be moved from its usual site at the Cedar County Courthouse memorial to the new Hartington Area Veterans Memorial in downtown Hartington.
On Friday at 1 p.m. the public is invited to attend the downtown ceremony, where the names of all the fallen will be read off. 'Taps' will also be played to salute the fallen.
In case of inclement weather, the program will be switched to the basement of the Hartington City Auditorium.
The community is also invited to participate in the annual Veterans Day program at 2:45 p.m. Friday at the Hartington-Newcastle school gym.
HNS graduate Rena Pederson will be the featured speaker at the program, which also features music from both Cedar Catholic and Hartington- Newcastle students.
Veterans and other community volunteers are urged to help put flags up for the celebration on Nov. 9.
The flags will fly throughout the weekend and will be taken down by a volunteer crew on Monday, Nov. 13. More volunteers will also be needed to take down the flags.
