WYNOT — The Wynot Blue Devils finished the regular season on a winning note last Friday as they battled to the wire to down the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears 53-49.

The Blue Devils led the entire way, but not before they had to withstand a couple of late rallies by the Bears.

The game featured an outstanding performance by a player from each side that made for an exciting boys basketball contest.

Jake Rath had a monster game for the Bears, finishing with 25 points and 20 rebounds. Gibson Roberts also hit double figures, chipping in with 14 points.

Wynot’s Dylan Heine continued to hit the long ball, nailing five from downtown and collecting 23 points and 11 rebounds. Zack Foxhoven was also a factor for the Blue Devils with 11 points and Chase Schroeder worked the boards for 8 caroms.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge got 4 points from Rath and a bucket each from Kolby Hansen and Roberts in the opening quarter. Wynot countered with 7 points by Heine and a couple of baskets by Foxhoven as the Blue Devils held an early 13-10 lead.

Wynot kept the pressure on in the second quarter as it got 4 more points by Foxhoven and a 3-pointer each by Carson Wieseler and Heine as the Blue Devils went on a 17-10 run in the period to build a 30-20 halftime advantage. Rath helped the Bears hang around with 7 more points for Laurel-Concord-Coleridge.

Rath and Roberts led the rally for the Bears in the third quarter with 10 and 7 points, respectively.

Heine continued to find scoring opportunities for the Blue Devils, but Laurel-Concord-Coleridge cut the lead to 41-39 going into the final quarter of play.

In the final quarter, the pressure would build. Rath hit for 4 more points and Hansen and Roberts had a offensive put-back each.

Heine drained his fifth trey of the night and Wynot hit just enough free throws to hold off the hard-charging Bears and squeak out the 53-49 win.
