RANDOLPH – Veterans will be served breakfast by Randolph High School students in a new addition to the annual Veterans Day program.

All veterans and their spouse are invited to the high school com mons at 9 a.m., Friday, Nov. 10, for a light breakfast. The public is invited to attend the annual Veterans Day program an hour later at 10 a.m. in the Performing Arts Gym.

Elementary and high school students will participate. The program will feature musical selections by the junior high and high school band and choir.

The guest speaker will be Tom Wiese, Randolph, who served in the Air Force during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was stationed in Wichita, Kan., during active duty from 2002 to 2005. He then served in the Air National Guard from 2005 to 2008.

Cedar County is also encouraging its residents and businesses to show their support for military veterans by going green.

The board of commissioners adopted a resolution on Oct. 24 that designates the county as a 2023 Operation Green Light for Veterans County.

The resolution encourages county residents to recognize the importance of honoring those who have made immeasurable sacrifices by displaying green lights in windows of their place of business or residence from Nov. 6-12.

The commissioners heard the most economical way to have green lights throughout the county courthouse was to put a green film over the lights that are going to be used and then remove the film after Nov. 12.

They all agreed that showing support for military veterans this way was a good idea.

The Nebraska Association of County Officials wants all 93 counties in the state to partici pate in Operation Green Light for Veterans, as this is a time of year to salute and honor the service and sacrifice of men and women in uniform transitioning from active duty.
