Going green

Cedar County encourages show of support for military veterans

HARTINGTON – Cedar County is encouraging its residents and businesses to show their support for military veterans by going green.

The board of commissioners adopted a resolution on Oct. 24 that designates the county as a 2023 Operation Green Light for Veterans County.

The resolution encourages county residents to recognize the importance of honoring those who have made immeasurable sacrifices by displaying green lights in windows of their place of business or residence from Nov. 6-12.

The commissioners heard the most economical way to have green lights throughout the county courthouse was to put a green film over the lights that are going to be used and then remove the film after Nov. 12.

They all agreed that showing support for military veterans this way was a good idea.

The Nebraska Association of County Officials wants all 93 counties in the state to participate in Operation Green Light for Veterans, as this is a time of year to salute and honor the service and sacrifice of men and women in uniform transitioning from active duty.
