Renovation of Providence Medical Center main entrance now complete

WAYNE – It’s been a long wait, but the new main entrance of Providence Medical Center (PMC) is complete and ready to be used by patients and visitors on Monday, Oct. 30.

“The new main entrance is part of the PMC outpatient services renovation project, which began in May 2021, to improve services and provide greater comfort and privacy to our patients,” said Danielle Gearhart, FACHE, CEO of PMC. “We’re very proud of the enhanced spaces in our specialty clinics, radiology, and laboratory. They support the growth that we have experienced, and the new main entrance pulls those spaces together.”

Friendly and familiar faces will greet you in the new and improved surroundings.

The registration area was designed to include added patient privacy during the check-in process while being more spacious allowing room for chairs and distancing.

The waiting area is more open and allows for more natural lighting for a welcoming and healing space. Starting Monday, Oct. 30, visitors and patients coming for laboratory, medical imaging, or other outpatient services at PMC, will enter through the new main entrance on the south side of the building.

The new main entrance and front lobby tie together and connect many services offered at PMC, from the newly constructed radiology and outpatient area to our inpatient nursing floor and support departments such as human resources, marketing, and administration. The new space was designed to enhance the patient experience and the delivery of care. This will make it easier for patients and visitors to reach their destination by keeping patient services conveniently located off a main corridor.

Once inside the new main lobby, outpatient services such as laboratory, radiology, CT, MRI, mammography, wound care, cardiac rehab, infusions, and specialty clinics are easily accessible down the main corridor to the east. The nursing floor, where inpatient and swing bed patients are care for, can be reached by following the main corridor on the west side of the main lobby.

Patients coming to see one of our many specialists will no longer enter via the temporary, wooden ramp the building on the southeast side of the hospital Instead, they will enter the building through the new main entrance and be greeted at the registration area.

Therapy patients will continue to use the Therapy door on the east side of the building and patients seeking emergency services will continue to use the emergency entrance on the north side of the building.

Work continues on the next phase of the construction project, which includes the remodeling of an operating and procedure room, the addition of a second operating room, and relocation of larger pre-operative care and post-surgical recovery bays. Anticipated to be completed in 2024, the surgical department will also include a new nurses’ station and exam rooms for surgeons to easily meet with their patients for consults or follow-up appointments. Patients undergoing surgery, as well as with their family members, will have their own private waiting room along with a private exit with convenient pull-up parking.
