WAYNE — The Hartington-Newcastle Lady Wildcats cross country team qualified for the Nebraska State Cross Country Championships on Oct. 20 at Kearney Country Club with a third-place showing at the C-3 District Meet held at Wayne Country Club on Oct. 11.

The Lady Wildcats had been steadily improving all season and broke through at the District meet.

The meet turned out to be the “Columbus Show” as Scotus Central Catholic won with a team score of 21; Columbus Lakeview was second with 55. The Lady Wildcats were just four points from second in the team race with a 59.

Wayne was fourth at 71 and Battle Creek rounded out the top five with 102.

In Class C, the top four runners figure into the team scoring, and as they have done nearly all season, the top two were just seconds away from each other.
