Lady Wildcats go 6-2 for the week

HOMER – A very busy week turned into a very successful week for the Hartington-Newcastle Lady Wildcat volleyball team as they opened the week completing a sevengame winning streak before dropping a couple of matches in the Lewis & Clark Conference Tournament.

HOMER — A very busy week turned into a very successful week for the Hartington-Newcastle Lady Wildcat volleyball team as they opened the week completing a sevengame winning streak before dropping a couple of matches in the Lewis & Clark Conference Tournament.

In the seven-game streak, the Lady Wildcats defeated Tri County Northeast twice, once in a triangular at TCNE and once in the opening round of the conference tournament; defeated Winside in the triangular at TCNE; defeated Ponca and Walthill in a triangular hosted by the Lady Blujays; defeated Randolph in the second match of the conference tournament.

On Oct. 16, in the second round of the Lewis & Clark, the Lady Wildcats were defeated by Homer and Wynot.

But not before giving Wynot, the team which eventually made the conference finals, all it wanted in the first game of the evening.

In fact, the Lady Wildcats won the first set in the best-of-three match which sent the Lady Devils into the semifinals against LCC. Wynot prevailed 23-25, 25-21 and 25-17.

Statistics for all of the HNS matches in the conference tournament were not available at press time and will be recapped next week.

Hartington dropped the best-ofthree match to Homer, also after losing the first set 25-17, Hartington- Newcastle came back to win set two, 25-18. The Lady Wildcats fell just short in the third set, falling 25-23 Earlier, on Oct. 14, Hartington-Newcastle defeated Tri County Northeast 25-9, 20-25 an< i 25-22 to remain unbeaten in the tournament and advance to the round played in Homer on Oct. 16 In the opening round, the Lady Wildcats swept Randolph 25-18 and 25-19 to move forward.

On. Oct. 12, Hartington-Newcastle traveled to Walthill for a triangular with the Lady Blujays and Ponca coming away with a sweep in both matches.

The Lady Wildcats defeated Walthill 25-18 and 25-10 before defeating Ponca 25-22 and 25-21.

Hartington-Newcastle went to Winside Oct. 10 in the battle of the Lady Wildcats. The teams had just played two days before in the Hartington-Newcastle Invitational.

The Lady Wildcats of Hartington-Newcastle prevailed again, this time in a sweep, 25-16 and 25-20.

Hartington-Newcastle now has a 15-14 record on the season with Sub-District action slated for next week.
