HNS girls run away with L&C title, boys are runners-up

WAUSA – The Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats and Lady Wildcats are saving their collective bests, for last as they head into this week’s district contest.

WAUSA — The Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats and Lady Wildcats are saving their collective bests, for last as they head into this week’s district contest.

In fact, in the final tune up before the district meet run here near Bloomfield, the Lady Wildcats won the Lewis & Clark Conference meet and the Wildcats came in second.

In the girls’ division of the meet, the Lady Wildcats won the event with 20 team points followed by Homer with 34.

Hartington-Newcastle had runners in second, third, eighth and ninth to bring home the title.

Claire Rolfes was second, Ava Noacker was third, Carmen Buschkamp was eighth and Isabel Rolfes was ninth.

Ryell Haug was just two spots out of the hardware in 12th.

The Wildcats finished second with 49 points, Bloomfield-Wausa won the meet with 20 points.

Adam Elks placed seventh overall followed by Alex Elks in ninth, Cole Rosener in 14th, Coven Joachimsen in 27th, Aaron Wortmann in 29th and Isaac Hernandez-Santiago in 30th.

Gavin Joachimsen came in 52nd, Harrison Kuehn was 54th, Sam Kuehn was 56th and Braeden Kleinschmit was 59th.

Luke Woockman from Bloomfield-Wausa was the boys’ champion while Brody Taylor from Ponca came in second.

The Wildcats and Lady Wildcats will now head to the District C-3 cross country meet which was set to run on Oct. 12 but was moved to Oct.11 due to incoming weather conditions.

The State Cross Country is set for Oct.20 at the Kearney Country Club in Kearney.
