LAUREL — The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge second grade class with their teacher Sue Koch, Para Jenn Jonas and Elementary School Principal Keri Hart, joined the Laurel Tree Board, and Chris Wood, NE Rural Forester, to celebrate the postponed Arbor Day Celebration.

Arbor Day is recognized in April, but this last April the city had water restrictions in place.

Chris Wood welcomed the LCC students and talked about Arbor Day, which is now 151 years old.

LCC second graders were asked about how trees help us, and many of the kids gave answers including: oxygen, clean water, provide shelter for people, animals, birds and produce food. Students were given time to ask their own questions. The second graders were invited to put a scoop of dirt on the newly planted Autumn Blaze Maple tree, named Mr. Shady Leaf and then help water the tree.
