LAUREL — Last Friday night, the Laurel-Concord football team decided Pierce put their pants on one leg at a time just like anyone else. They went on to whip their rival 20-6. This is the first time Laurel has met Pierce since 1954.

LAUREL — Mrs. Fred Burns will leave today for Omaha to meet her sister-in-law, Mrs. V. W. Stadds, of Santa Ana, Calif. They will join the Floyd Root tour there and travel through the New England states and Canada for 16 days.

LAUREL — Mrs. Marlen Johnson represented the Concordia Lutheran Church Women at the Northeast District LCW Day of Renewal at Tabor Lutheran Church in Wausa Sept. 18. The retreat theme was “Growing In Faith.” Twentynine ladies attended the event from Pierce, Pender, Emerson, Bloomfield, Wayne, Wausa, Concord, Dakota City.

LAUREL — The Dixon Community Improvement Committee received a check for $1,410 from Branch 1566 of the Aid Association for Lutherans. This total matches the amount raised by DCIC at the Dixon Fun Day Aug. 7.

LAUREL — The Laurel-Concord Lady Bears volleyball team played three tough sets but came up short on Sept. 22 as they lost to Emerson-Hubbard 14-16, 15-13 and 11-15.

LAUREL — Both Laurel-Concord junior high football teams started their seasons with wins over Ponca Sept. 19. The eighth grade team beat the Indians 9-0. The seventh grade team shut them out 6-0.
