LCC posts 2-1 mark at Madison Invitational

MADISON – The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge volleyball team went 2-1 in the Madison Invitational on Sept. 23 in Madison.

MADISON — The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge volleyball team went 2-1 in the Madison Invitational on Sept. 23 in Madison.

The Lady Bears defeated Wayne 30-28, 2225 and 25-9 to open the tournament, defeated Summerland in straight sets, 25-23, 25-13, and dropped a match to Pierce 25-19, 26-24, to end the past week at 12-7 on the 2023 season.

Against the Lady Bluejays, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge nearly forced a third set as it was defeated by Pierce for the second time this season, losing a match 2-1 back on Sept. 9.

Rena Rasmussen paced the Lady Bears attack with seven kills in the match; Mallory Eriksen and Delaney Johnson each tacked on three winners.

Carlie Kvols had a dozen set-assists and Eriksen successfully passed the ball 19 times in the match.

Eriksen also recorded nine digs. In the match with Summerland, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge held on in set one before dominating the Lady Bobcats in the second set to sweep the match.

Rasmussen led the attack again with nine kills, Tali Erwin added seven and Eriksen hit six winners.

Eriksen had four big aces from the service line; Erwin and Rasmussen each had two.

Kvols had 20 assists and Eriksen had 12 good passes.

Eriksen and Rasmussen each had 10 digs and Delaney Johnson had three blocks at the net.

In the win over the Lady Blue Devils, the first set went to extra points with Laurel-Concord- Coleridge winning by the 30-28 score.

Wayne forced a third set with a 25-22 win, but the Lady Bears came alive in set three and ran away with the 25-9 set victory to win the match.

Rasmussen had a monster game at the net, hitting 18 kills in the match. Eriksen had seven and Erwin and Johnson each hammered six.

Avery Hahne had three ace serves; Rasmussen and Kvols each had two while Kvols also tipped up 32 assists.

Kvols also had 15 digs for a double-double; Rasmussen completed a double-double with 11 digs.

Bailey Graf also registered 11 digs.

Pierce defeats Laurel-Concord-Coleridge 25-19, 26-24.
