Music has always been a big part of local services

Feb. 2, 1928

HARTINGTON — The Hartington Trinity Lutheran choir had their voices heard around the region this week.

The Trinity Lutheran Choir gave a concert for the first time Sunday afternoon, which was broadcast over Yankton’s WNAX radio station.

The 30-minute program featured a series of classical and religious numbers.

The program was received by a number of radio fans in this vicinity and they were enthusiastic about how well the program came in. A large crowd of listeners were also present at the Gurney broadcasting station while the Lutheran choir sent their numbers out over the air.

The Yankton choir served a lunch for the visitors following the program.

The following members of the choir rendered the broadcasting program: Mrs. A.M. Peterson, Misses Corena Olsen, Alda Thomas, Helen Swanson, sopranos; Mrs. Elsie Swihart, Misses Helen Munter and Clara Schager, altos; Colburn Olsen and William Jacobson, tenors; Rev. A.M. Peterson and L.A. Nelson, bass.

Rev. Peterson enjoyed the opportunity but said he wished more people could have heard the broadcast.

“Due to short notice, we were not able to notify all the friends who would have liked to have listened in,” he said.
