Merlin Dean Loberg

OMAHA – Merlin Dean Loberg, 59, Laurel, died peacefully Sept. 3, 2023, surrounded by his family, after a courageous one year battle with cancer that he fought with a positive attitude, without complaint, always protecting his family.

OMAHA — Merlin Dean Loberg, 59, Laurel, died peacefully Sept. 3, 2023, surrounded by his family, after a courageous one year battle with cancer that he fought with a positive attitude, without complaint, always protecting his family.

Family received friends Sept. 6 at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church, Omaha.

Mass of Christian Burial was Sept. 7 at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church.

Interment was at Calvary Cemetery. Merlin was born March 5, 1964, in Laurel, to Vernon and Beverly Loberg. He graduated from Randolph High School in 1982, and received his degree from Wayne State College in 1988.

Merlin married Angela Hatten Nov. 26, 1993, and they had two sons, Jacob and Matthew. Their early married years were spent in Sioux City, Iowa, where Merlin worked for the West Monona and Woodbury Central Schools as a teacher and coach. He then began to work for Bekins Distribution until 2004. The family then moved to Omaha, where Merlin worked at Craftware Pottery, Q&H Honey, Legacy Homes and D.R. Horton, where the people he worked with became lifelong friends.

Merlin was happiest when he was with his family and friends, especially doing anything sports related. He coached his boys in multiple sports throughout their youth, and could be found supporting any friend or relative participating in their activities. Merlin enjoyed Husker football and tailgates, playing cards, fishing, Friday night poker and spending time with his bestest buddy Gunter. He holds thehouseholdrecordforthelowestscoreinFiveCrowns. Merlinhadahuge heart and was often found helping others in need. A true testament to his kind and caring nature was evident by the stream of family and friends that came to say Merlin Loberg

goodbye to him in his final days.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 29 years, Angie; two sons, Jacob and his wife, Nicole, and Matthew and his fiancé, Emma Ourada; his siblings, Paul (Ju lie) Loberg, Randolph; Loren (Tammi) Loberg, Norfolk; Verlene (Jerry) Synovec, Randolph; Keith (Diane) Loberg, Randolph; Daryl (Julie) Loberg, North Bend; Arlyn Loberg, Randolph; Darin (Jackie) Loberg, Randolph; Steve (Wendy) Loberg, Omaha; and Jason (Sara) Loberg, Omaha; sisters-in-law, Julie Loberg, Randolph; Lisa (Kevin) Krukow, Iowa Falls, Iowa; Julie (Ed) Clark, Marshall, Minn.; and Mari Beth (Jon) Ahart, Stewartville, Minn.; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and three siblings, Lester, Dale and Vanessa; and in-laws, John and Jo Hatten and Lori Buckley.
