Judith Ann was born March 1, 1945, in Laurel, to Ralph and Helga (Nelson) Hinrichs. She attended rural elementary school and graduated from Laurel High School in 1963. She spent a short time working at the local Dime Store before attending Norfolk Beauty College. She married Merlin Eugene Berteloth July 18, 1965, and had two children, Cameron and Marny. Judy was a beautician at the Wayne Beauty Salon before spending the next many years helping Merlin do farm work. She eventually retired and moved with Merlin to an acreage outside of Laurel, which she called home for nearly 30 years.
Judy had many hobbies and passions. She studied oil painting and china painting from local artists, and enjoyed painting beautiful artwork for her family and for her own home. She was a talented seamstress and quilter, and also liked to refinish furniture. Judy had a “green thumb” and loved flowers of any kind. She was also an amazing cook and liked to experiment with recipes. During her later years, she developed an interest in photography and enjoyed taking pictures of her flowers and the scenery around her home. She especially loved spending time with her family and sharing her passions with her granddaughter.
Judy is survived by her husband, Merlin Berteloth; her son, Cameron Berteloth, and daughter, Marny Mouw; her granddaughter, Rose Mouw; many nieces, nephews, family, and friends, as well as her little dog, Mindy, who held a special place in her heart.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Helga Hinrichs, and brother, Don Hinrichs.
