Gators take bite out of the LCC Bears

LAUREL - Wisner-Pilger handed Laurel-Concord-Coleridge its first regular season gridiron loss Friday since the last game of the 2021 season.

The Bears moved the ball well against the Gators, but had trouble stopping the run as Wisner-Pilger rushed for 271 yards on the night to help them to the 32-20 decision.

The Bears scored first on a 17- yard Caleb Erwin run in the opening quarter and after a conversion run, they were up 8-0.

Wisner-Pilger answered, still in the opening frame, with a short touchdown pass but a two-yard pass from Dylan Taylor to Carter Kvols put Laurel-Concord-Coleridge back in front 14-8 after a failed point- after kick.

Taylor would finish the game with another ecient performance, going 15-of-26 through the air for 156 yards and the one score to Kvols.

Kvols grabbed 11 of the 15 aerials for 120 of the yards.

The Gators tied it up before the intermission and took their first lead of the contest in the third quarter on a 26-yard Braxton Siebrandt run to make it 20-6, Wisner-Pilger.

The Bears fell behind 26-14 early in the fourth on a Gator scoring pass then went down 32-14 after a long Wisner-Pilger run.

Gibson Roberts made the score look better later in the fourth with a 22-yard run and the final score was

set.

LCC did have 308 yards in total oense with 171 through the air and 137 on the ground, paced by Bradyn Urwiler who had 82 yards rushing.

Wisner-Pilger had 55 yards in the air to finish with 326 total yards and the Bears lost a couple of fumbles.

Roberts came on for an injured Taylor late in the game and com- pleted two passes for 15 yards.

The Bears will hit the road for the first time this season when they will travel to Plainview to take on the 2-0 Pirates on Sept. 8.
