HARTINGTON — Area residents will soon get the chance to learn more about local taxing entities and the taxpayer dollars it takes to run them.
The majority of local taxing entities are planning public budget hearings next week.
Hartington-Newcastle Public Schools will hold its budget hearing Sept. 11.
The school will hold a 5:15 p.m. hearing to discuss its proposal for a $13.6 million budget to operate the school district for this school year. This figure is $4.2 million less than last year's operating budget.
Cedar County will hold a public hearing on its 2023-24 budget at 8 a.m. Sept. 12. The county is proposing a $32.2 million budget this year.
The Wynot School Board will meet Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. Board members will be voting on a $5.8 million budget.
The City of Hartington will hold its budget hearing Sept. 25.
Area villages, the Lewis & Clark Natural Resources District and the various area Fire Districts are also holding budget hearings this month.
