LAUREL — After qualifying for last year’s Class C Nebraska State Golf Championships with a third-place showing in the District meet at Wayne Country Club, the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls golf team is looking to take another trip to the Lake Maloney Golf Club in North Platte for the 2023 edition.
“The girls have worked very hard this summer to continue to improve,” Lady Bears golf coach Christina Patefield said.
“It was a very tight race at the end of last year for the top five players and it looks the same this year.”
Twelve girls return from last season, including two players with that State experience.
Seniors Becka Lipp, Abby Tasler and Faith Urwiler return. Juniors Clara Brummels, Lily Fox, Abby Lipp, Lilly Pehrson and Skylar Swanson will be trying for spots on the varsity and junior varsity.
The sophomores include Danica Gould, Kennedy Hall, Stella Kock and Holly Patefield.
Patefield also welcomed three freshmen to the team in Harper Bruning, Mavis Jonas and Tanya Miranda.
Skylar Swanson and Holly Patefield competed at state in 2022 when the Lady Bears made the top 10 with a tie for ninth with Wayne at a two-day total of 805.
“Having several players on the team will help the girls to continue to work hard to fill the varsity and junior varsity spots on the team again this year,” Patefeild said. “We are very excited to see how this year goes for LCC girls golf team.”
The Lady Bears opened the season Aug. 18 in the West Point-Beemer Invitational.
They are set for the Wayne Invitational on Aug. 25 at Wayne Country Club.
