NEWCASTLE — Leonard J. Hoesing, 70, Newcastle, died Aug. 8, 2023, at Faith Regional Hospital, Norfolk.
Mass of Christian Burial was Aug. 11 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Newcastle, with the Rev. Owen Korte officiating.
Burial was at Calvary Cemetery, Newcastle.
Pallbearers were Dwight Wudell, Jeff Burbach, Andrew Hoesing, Matthew Hoesing, Audrey Kyncl and Melinda Burbach.
Honorary pallbearers were Rachel Wudell, Lindsey Hoesing and Brian Bauman. Visitation was at the church on Friday.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.
Leonard was born Nov. 17, 1952, in Ponca, to Fintan and Mary Jane Hoesing. He grew up in Newcastle and attended school there. Leonard worked on the farm and at the Saw Mill in Ponca for a while and held various jobs throughout his life.
Leonard enjoyed fishing when he was younger. He really liked walking and working on chainsaws and small engines. He enjoyed visiting and being around people.
Leonard is survived by his mother, Mary Jane Hoesing, Newcastle; five siblings and spouses, Larry Hoesing, Creighton; Donna Hoesing, Yankton, S.D.; Arthur (Julie) Hoesing, Yankton, S.D.; Alfred (Monika) Hoesing, Maskell; Elmer (Jane) Hoesing, Coleridge; many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fintan Hoesing; a brother, Bernard Hoesing; and nephew, Jerome Hoesing.
