Aaron J. Bensen

PONCA – Aaron J. Bensen, 53, Ponca, died unexpectedly July 1, 2023, at Unity Point Health – St. Luke’s, Sioux City, Iowa. A Celebration of Life service was held July 25 at the Ponca Community Hall, Ponca. Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington. Aaron Jeffrey was born Dec. 9, 1969, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Rodney Adair and Vera Jean (Andersen) Bensen. He grew up north of Maskell, on the family farm. He attended school in Newcastle, and graduated from Newcastle High School in 1988. Aaron then enrolled in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Luke Air Force Base, Glendale, Ariz. He served stateside during the Gulf War until being honorably discharged in 1992. Aaron then moved to California for five years before moving back to Newcastle. He worked for Terra and Central Valley Ag, and local area farmers until 2002. He received his associate’s degree, and then owned and operated his own farm and did custom work for area farmers. For the past six years, he has owned and operated his trucking operation.

His hobby was working on his truck, pulling motors, riding his motorcycle, and keeping busy.

Aaron is survived by his daughter, Jinell Carslin, Lincoln; three siblings, Wendy Bensen and Brian Kelly, Papillion; Eldon (Katie) Bensen, Dakota City; and Beau (Jen) Bensen, Maskell; one niece, eight nephews, and one great-nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rodney and Vera Bensen, and grandparents.
