1989: Wynot community leaders work to improve ball park

HARTINGTON — No one was hurt on Wednesday, June 27, when a semi skidded into a ditch at the junction of Highways 15 and 12 south of Hartington.

Mike Chaussee of Sioux City, who was driving the truck, said he was traveling west on Highway 12 at 11:45 a.m., when the right front tire blew out.

He said that he was unable to prevent the truck, which was traveling at about 55 miles per hour, from swerving to the right and into the ditch just a few feet west of where the two highways meet.

July 3, 1979

HARTINGTON — Three Cedar County men were arrested last week in connection with the burglary of a farmhouse north of Hartington.

Arrested and charged with misdemeanor theft were Russel D. Janssen, 21, of Coleridge and Jim Walz, 19 of Randolph. Both entered guilty pleas when they appeared Tuesday, June 26, in County Court before Judge David Curtiss.

Both received 60-day jail sentences, $500 fines and 12 months of formal probation after the 60 days in jail. They also were instructed to make restitution for the items they were convicted of taking. A third Cedar County man was to have a preliminary hearing in connection with the case on Tuesday, July 3.

PONCA — Don Miller Land Company of Hartington held a grand opening at its new Ponca Branch Office on Saturday, June 30.

The company is owned by Don Miller of Hartington, who has been a real estate salesman and broker in northeast Nebraska for about 25 years.

June 28, 1989

HARTINGTON — The condition of a county road currently under reconstruction held the focus of the Cedar County Board of Commissioners at a brief meeting Friday, June 23.

Jim Tuttle of Hartington addressed the Commissioners concerning the maintenance of the country road by his property.

WYNOT — A Wynot organization is hoping that nostalgia will pay big dividends as it attempts to raise money for new lights at the community ballpark. With between $6,000 and $7,000 still needed, the Wynot Village Helpers are hopeful that a prom night for people 21 and older will give the fund a big push toward its $27,000 goal.

June 28, 1989

HARTINGTON — Omni Engineering of Omaha was the low bidder at $759,704 for improvements to a ninemile stretch on Highway 15 between Hartington and Coleridge. State Sen. Elroy Hefner of Coleridge made the announcement on Monday.
