ST. HELENA — What might have been a real tragedy occurred at St. Helena during their July 4th celebration.

Several women were sitting visiting on benches in the park when some grown men shot Roman candles into the crowd. One of the sparks (or whatever they are called) hit Mrs. Clarence Kathol on the back of her head. She automatically put up her hand and rubbed the place it had hit and found her hair afire. She succeeded in putting out the fire but had real painful burns and bruises and a numb feeling on the right side of her head.

COLERIDGE — A large crowd attended the 4th of July celebration in Coleridge.

The day started with the kiddie parade at 1 p.m. The grand prize winner was the children of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Felber, who had a rocket in a wagon pulled by a pony, with space men seated on the wagon. Randy Neu, son of Rev. and Mrs. Robert Neu, was runner-up. He was dressed as a space man pulling a large flying saucer. The parade theme was “Space”. All the entries received prizes in their categories.
