HARTINGTON — One more event checked off the list in preparation of the 2023 Cedar County Fair.

On July 1, many 4-H’ers gathered at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hartington, for Pre-Fair Day. They spent the morning talking to judges for both the construction of their projects along with modeling.

After a successful morning it was time for the public Style Show, where 4-H’ers were able to model what they made to their family and friends.

Results from the Fashion Show were: Consumer Management $20 Shopping Challenge under 12 Reserve Champion was Macie Koch and Champion was Clara Wuebben; $20 Shopping Challenge 12 and over Reserve Champion was Calley Stewart and Champion was Ava Stewart; Shopping in Style, the Reserve Champion was Ella Crosley and Champion was Calley Stewart. Both Ella and Calley are eligible to represent Cedar County at the Nebraska State Fair.

Next up was the Constructed Clothing categories. STEAM Clothing 1 the Reserve Champion was Levi Steffen and Champion was Macie Koch. STEAM Clothing 1 is the division where a 4-H’er exhibits a simple article requiring basic sewing skills. These exhibits could be anything from a pillowcase, simple pillow, bag/purse, or a simple top, bottom, dress or romper.

In STEAM Clothing 2 the Reserve Champion was Kendra Schmit, and Champion was Maleah Heimes. STEAM Clothing 2 consists of 4-H’ers’ exhibits entered in this project must reflect at least one new skill learned. Some examples could be a top or bottom, dress, or a two-piece outfit.

In STEAM Clothing 3 our Champion was Ava Stewart. STEAM Clothing 3 is when the 4-H’ers’ exhibits entered in this project must reflect at least one new skill learned. Garments may be made from any pattern or any fabric and should demonstrate sewing skills beyond STEAM 2. Some examples could be a formal, skirted/ pants combination, specialty wear, and outerwear.

To end the Style Show were projects in the Beyond the Needle class with Reserve Champion being Ava Stewart and Champion Calley Stewart.

Before the lights were cut and curtains closed, we still had to name our overall Champion and Reserve Champion. This year’s 2023 overall Cedar County Reserve Grand Champion was Maleah Heimes and this year’s 2023 overall Cedar County Grand Champion was Ava Stewart. Stewart and Heimes are eligible to participate in the State Fair.

The help of the 4-H’ers to get ready for this day is much appreciated, as are the sponsorships of Main Street Treasures, Bank of Hartington, First Northeast Bank of Nebraska, Farmers and Merchants State Bank, Citizens State Bank, First State Bank of Randolph and Floral Designs.
